How Much Does Landscape Design Cost in Tampa Bay? A 2026 Breakdown

“What does landscaping cost?” is the first question in almost every consultation, and the honest answer is a range — so here’s how that range actually works in Tampa Bay, and what moves a project up or down inside it.

The three budget tiers we see

Refresh (low four figures). New plants in existing beds, fresh mulch or rock, a cleanup and re-edge. This is the highest-impact dollar in landscaping — most front yards look dramatically different after a refresh that costs less than a used riding mower.

Room-scale project (mid four to low five figures). A new paver patio, a full front-yard redesign with new beds and sod, or landscape lighting across the property. One defined space, designed and built properly.

Whole-yard transformation (five figures and up)

Design plan for the full property, hardscape plus planting plus irrigation plus lighting, usually phased over one or two years. Outdoor kitchens and structural shade live in this tier too.

What actually drives the number

  • Access. A backyard a skid-steer can reach costs less than one where everything moves by wheelbarrow through a 36-inch gate.
  • Plant maturity. A 3-gallon shrub and a 15-gallon version of the same plant differ by years, and the price reflects buying those years.
  • Site prep you can’t see. Grading, drainage, root removal, irrigation rework. This is the line that separates a bid that holds from a bid that grows.
  • Hardscape share. Stone and pavers cost more per square foot than plants. The more of the design is hard surface, the higher the total.

Where not to cut

Cut plant sizes, cut square footage, phase the project — all fine. Don’t cut base prep under hardscape, drainage, or irrigation coverage. Every “budget” corner cut in the invisible layer comes back with interest.

Why we quote from a design, not a drive-by

A scaled plan means the quote is a real number for a real scope — not an allowance that becomes change orders. It also means you can phase intelligently: build the patio this year and plant next spring against the same plan.
